Nashville Gets Us: Rayna and Juliette Bonding Over Pregnancy

To celebrate Nashville Winter Finale this week (December 10, 10/9c) we asked fellow fans to share their favorite moments from season 3 so far. Kira (@TheRealKiralee) chose the moment at the end of episode 3.03 – ‘I Can’t Get Over You to Save My Life’ when Juliette came to Rayna as a last result to tell her about her pregnancy. Did you love this moment too? Share with us your thoughts and follow for more moments to come.

About this blog

“I really love to watch characters and relationships between characters evolve so for me, one really great moment in Season 3, is from episode 3.03 when Juliette turns up on Rayna’s doorstep with her baby sonogram because she has no one else to turn to.

In both Season 1 and Season 2, in the first episodes, we have a Rayna and Juliette interaction. Season 1, they come across as hating each other’s guts, Season 2, Juliette is slightly empathetic towards Rayna’s circumstances, but she also harbors resentment toward Rayna for knocking her singles out of the top 10 and seemingly ruining their tour because of her accident. Season 3, we see the development of this relationship, where Juliette, who hated Rayna to start with and has always had a slight attitude toward her, actually turns to Rayna for help.

This is not only important because it shows a development in the Rayna and Juliette relationship, but it also shows a decrease of Juliette’s pride, and we see very quickly, the “Mama Rayna” side of Rayna, where she immediately can relate to Juliette’s circumstances, because she too became unexpectedly pregnant at a young age. In the following episode – 3.04: ‘I feel Sorry for Me’ –  Rayna walks away from a big potential label move with Sadie Stone when Juliette calls her in a frantic panic, and comes to help Juliette, drive her to the doctors and stand right by her side during the whole consultation.

Again, this scene shows the development of their relationship, so much so that Rayna is Juliette’s first point of contact, but also that Rayna was willing to give up a potentially big opportunity to help out Juliette. I also think this illustrates Rayna’s deep empathy, knowing that she too had to go through an unplanned pregnancy, and so she is all the wiser and a perfect fit to help Juliette!”
